Hermès Fall/Winter 2025 unfolded in a universe of black, each shade telling its own story. From the softened depth of charcoal to the intensity of midnight, the palette was nearly monochromatic, punctuated only by restrained hints of lime green, ivory, and earthy brown. This wasn't just a collection; it was a meditation on the Parisian uniform, executed with the kind of quiet confidence that Hermès has mastered. The venue—a dark, futuristic expanse dusted with soft sand—set the stage for a study in contrasts. Sharp, sculptural leather wrap skirts, rigorously tailored blazers, and quilted vests played against enveloping, almost suspenseful textures.

Yet, the core of the collection wasn’t simply aesthetic; it was built on a foundation of practicality and heritage. The omnipresent black coat—a staple in any serious wardrobe—was reimagined in goatskin pea coats, silk gabardine bombers, and plush shearling. Nearly every variation made an appearance, save for the puffer, a deliberate omission that spoke to the brand’s emphasis on precision and longevity.

Hermès has always been fluent in the language of equestrian elegance, and this collection was no exception. Riding boots paired with saddle-inspired leather shorts, white turtlenecks layered under sweeping wool coats, and fingerless gloves offering a nod to classic dressage attire. Even the styling whispered of quiet luxury—thick wool scarves spilling over coats, sweaters draped just so over shoulders, an ease that comes only with mastery.

Nadège Vanhée has spent over a decade refining the Hermès woman, and this collection was another chapter in her narrative of discreet sophistication. There’s always a secret embedded in her designs—coats that unravel into blankets, hand-painted marbled patterns that deceive the eye, zippers woven into body-hugging silhouettes to reveal unexpected cutouts. It’s these details that make her work feel like a discovery rather than a spectacle.

If fashion has entered its farm-to-runway era, Hermès sits at the pinnacle, elevating the conversation beyond trends. The question isn’t whether an all-black wardrobe is timeless—we know it is. The real revelation? That equestrian layering, once purely functional, has never looked so undeniably refined.
